When Jacob MaGee, a Mobile banker, constructed his farm in 1848 it was a simple dwelling. The farmhouse would have probably faded into obscurity had it not been where Confederate General Richard Taylor negotiated a cease fire with Union General E.R.S. Canby on April 29, 1865. The cease fire paved the way for the final surrender of the last remaining Confederate troops east of the Mississippi River.
