When the Escambia County High School football team steps on the gridiron in August to open the 2008 season, they will have to step it up.
The Blue Devils will be entering uncharted territory as they make the move up from Class 4A to Class 5A. Friday, the team will take on Class 6A Robertsdale in its spring jamboree on the road in hopes of using it as a steppingstone heading into the summer.
The jamboree will be a four-quarter contest and will kick off at 7 p.m.
Davis said there is not much preparation he and his staff can make heading into the game, so he has been working on the basics on both offense and defense with his team.
Spring training began April 28 for the Blue Devils and Davis said he has used it as an opportunity to give his new players time to adjust to the new system on the high school level.
The team has been responding well during spring training, giving Davis optimism for the upcoming season.
