Both United States representative Jo Bonner (R-AL) and senator Richard Shelby (R-AL) announced last Friday that Atmore Municipal Airport has been awarded $81,849 from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration.
Shell said the money will be used to provide a safety zone for the airport.
Shelby said in a release that providing a protection zone is key for the Atmore Municipal Airport.
The Dauphin Island Airport received $150,000 that will also be used as an area that will be clear of people and buildings, Bonner said in a release.
