A stormy Saturday morning led to the cancellation of much anticipated Mayfest and according to Atmore Area Chamber of Commerce administrative assistant Shelly Williams, it is still unknown whether the event will be rescheduled or not.
City of Atmore residents will not know whether or not Mayfest has been rescheduled until the Chamber board meets on May 12.
However, one of the most adorable Mayfest events has been rescheduled. The Mayfest Beautiful Baby Contest has been moved to May 17. According to Williams, the contest will be held at the same time and same place as originally planned, just on a different date.
The Mayfest Beautiful Baby Contest is slated for May 17 at 9:30 a.m. at Atmore Heritage Park and since the original date has been pushed back, so has the date for registration.
Williams said individuals who wish to register their children may do so up until May 16 for a pre-registration fee of $12. Individuals who wish to register their children the day of the contest may do so beginning at 8:30 a.m. for a charge of $15.
The Beautiful Baby Contest, sponsored by Atmore Community Hospital, involves children ranging in age from 6 months to 3 years old. These age groups are broken down into separate categories: 6 months, 1 year olds, 2 year olds and 3 year olds. Winners will receive toys.
There was also a photography contest, sponsored by The Atmore Advance, scheduled for Mayfest. However this contest has not been rescheduled and the winners have been announced.
