Crocker enjoys traveling with her Poarch SAIL Center friends

(This week The Atmore Advance spotlights 66-year-old Velma Crocker.)
Q: When and where were you born?
A: Right here at Poarch on Feb. 22, 1942.
Q: Who were your parents?
A: Levi and Treacy McGhee. They were from here also.
Q: What did your parents do for a living?
A: Daddy farmed and mother was a housewife.
Q: Do you have any brothers or sisters?
A: There were 13 of us all together. Daddy had two kids, momma had three and then together they had eight.
Q: Where did you attend school?
A: Poarch for the first through sixth grades and then Atmore for the seventh through 12th grades.
Q: Do you do a lot of traveling?
A: Every chance I get with the seniors (at the Poarch SAIL Center) and I do a lot of traveling with my children.
Q: Where all have you traveled?
A: New York; Branson, Mo.; Albuquerque, N.M.; Wisconsin; Seattle, Wash. and all over Florida.
Q: What was your favorite place to visit?
A: We have a good time everywhere we go. But I think I liked Seattle, Wash. It was nice and cool the whole time we were there.
Q: Where did you work?
A: When I lived in Florida I packaged fruit and then I worked at Vanity Fair. Since Vanity Fair closed I haven’t worked.
Q: Where have you lived?
A: Alabama and Florida.
Q: What do you like most about Atmore?
A: My church, Atmore Apostolic Church.
Q: Did you ever marry?
A: Yes.
Q: Do you have children?
A: Yes, two girls. Lori Findley and Candace Fayard.
Q: Do you have any grandchildren?
A: Four grandkids. I have three girls and one boy.
Q: Where do you attend church?
A: Atmore Apostolic Church.
Q: What keeps you busy these days?
A: Going to church and traveling with the seniors. I have quilted about three years off and on.
Q: What is your favorite food?
A: I like chicken and rice.
Q: What advice would you like to give people on staying healthy?
A: Eat right and exercise and don’t worry about anything and trust in the Lord.
