Lauren Ashleigh Taylor strutted her stuff Saturday night to take home the title of Miss Escambia County High School 2008.
Fifteen girls competed for this year’s crown with a “Barbie” themed competition.
The program, sponsored by the Student Government Association, went according to plan, said SGA president and last year’s Miss ECHS, Tamekia Boggan.
SGA vice president Tray Smith and SGA parliamentarian Scott Jenson were the masters of ceremony.
Jenson said it may have been beneficial for the group to have practiced for more than one week before the pageant.
However, Jenson said he feels the pageant is a great experience for the young ladies.
Participants in this year’s pageant included, first runner-up, Miss Congeniality and Poise and Appearance winner Porchia Flavors, second runner-up Sheena-Marie Currie, Lameika Abner, Zenetreciaci Dailey, Amber English, Deidra Henderson, Danielle Hunt, Terrica Ingram, Whitney Johnson, Fanchona Lee, Brittney Martin, Cierra Moye, Trysheika Sanders and Ashley Webster.
The winner, Lauren Ashleigh Taylor, also took home the honor of Miss Physical Fitness.
Jenson said English was recognized for playing a special part of the evening.
Participants introduced themselves in different “Barbie” costumes. They also performed physical fitness routines and participated in an eveningwear portion of the competition.
Twenty-five percent of the student’s scores came from interviews, which were held earlier in the day.
As Miss ECHS 2008, Taylor won a $50 savings bond from First National Bank &Trust.
