Sellers has gone to Brooks Memorial for 62 years

(This week The Atmore Advance spotlights 84-year-old Evelyn Parker Sellers, who enjoys visiting the Atmore SAIL Center and going to worship at Brooks Memorial Baptist Church. She also likes to do things that helps other people out like taking them to doctor’s appointments if they don’t have a ride.)
Q: When and where were you born?
A: I was born in Pike County near Troy on March 4, 1924.
Q: Who were your parents?
A: Jessie and Rosie Belle Maughon.
Q: Where were your parents from?
A: From Pike County.
Q: What did your parents do for a living?
A: Farmed.
Q: Do you have any brothers or sisters?
A: I had four brothers and three sisters. They are dead but one sister, Grace McCoy. She lives in Atlanta.
Q: Where did you attend school?
A: I went to school in Pike County. Then we moved to Atmore and I went to Huxford and then later I went to Uriah.
Q: Do you do a lot of traveling?
A: Not that much. I’m a homebody.
Q: Where did you work?
A: I worked at grocery stores and department stores. All together I’ve worked 40 years in stores.
Q: Where have you lived?
A: I lived in Pike County, came to McCullough, Atmore, Huxford and Goodway.
Q: What do you like most about Atmore?
A: Everybody is so friendly and nice.
Q: Did you ever marry?
A: Yes. My first husband was Roy H. “Buck” Parker. We had four boys. Later on I married Jr. Sellers. They are both dead.
Q: Do you have children?
A: Four children, they are all Parkers.
Q: Do you have any grandchildren?
A: Yes. I have four granddaughters and two grandsons.
Q: Where do you attend church?
A: Brooks Memorial Baptist Church. I’ve been there about 62 years.
Q: What keeps you busy these days?
A: I do a lot of volunteer work. I take people to the doctor when they don’t have a way to go. I pick up children and take them to church on Sundays. I just love to do something for someone else because God has been so good to me.
I love to eat over here (Atmore SAIL Center). I do some volunteer work here. I used to work at the beauty shop in the nursing home. I fixed hair. I did that for 10 years after I retired.
Q: What is your favorite TV show?
A: I love the Christian music. Other than that I like the news and “Wheel of Fortune.”
Q: What is your favorite food?
A: I like most any food.
Q: What advice would you like to give people on staying healthy?
A: Stay in church, stay busy, eat healthy and live for the Lord.
