Unity in the Community is a festival that has been around for many years in Atmore and it’s just around the corner this summer.
The Concerned Citizens of Atmore have scheduled Unity in the Community for June 14.
Concerned Citizen Sandra Gray said Unity in the Community has been something the group has provided since 1991.
This year’s festival is slated for June 14 from 1 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Houston Avery Park on Martin Luther King Avenue in Atmore.
Gray said planning for the event has been successful.
Children are invited to bring their bathing suits for the day of fun.
Activities for the day include, a waterslide, face painting, a cakewalk, a moonwalk, pony rides, a clown and a mechanical bull ride.
There will also be a MLK Little League Baseball Tournament beginning at 3 p.m.
Food for the day will include hamburgers, hotdogs, BBQ, ice cream, snow cones, wings and hot fried fish.
There will be speakers at the event from local churches. Pastors interested in speaking to the crowd for 10 minutes each can contact Frank Jones at 368-2256.
There is also a competition this year entitled “Battle of the Choirs” that will begin at 2 p.m. Area church or community choirs interested in the contest should register by calling Gray at 368-6023 or 251-545-9567.
Gray said the Concerned Citizens invite everyone to attend the festival.
