MOBILE - Ms. Emma Bell Edwards, 95, departed this life on Wednesday, June 4, 2008 at Kindred Health Care in Mobile. She was born on April 15, 1913 to the late Herbert and Ella Edwards in Monroe County.
Emma was raised in Atmore and later moved to Mobile and joined Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church No. 1. She was employed with Brooklyn Field, Kindred Health Care and performed private duty nursing.
Her father and mother, Herbert and Ella Edwards and three sisters, Irene Gulley, Willie Rivers and Lexanne Locke, all preceded her in death.
She leaves to cherish her memories, one sister, Ella Edwards of Albion, N.Y.; a special niece, Geraldine Jefferson of Atmore; a devoted Goddaughter, Barbara (Walter) Pogue of Mobile; a Godson, Joshua Wabley of Mobile; two nephews, Matt (Earnestine) Gulley of Mobile and Don (Joann) Jefferson of Atmore; eight more nieces, Eloise (William) Parker of Chicago, Celestine (Robert) McCaskill of Brewton, Emma Maye, Marilyn Edwards and Gloriadine Robinson, all of Atmore, Isolene (Blanche) Portis of New Orleans, La., Fannie Banks and Gracie Grant of Queens, N.Y. and a host of great nephews and great nieces and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 14, 2008 at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church No. 1 in Mobile with Pastor Scott officiating. Interment will be held at 4 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery.
Public viewing will be held Friday, June 13, 2008 from noon until 6 p.m. at Christian Memorial Funeral Home Chapel.
Pallbearers and flower bearers will be family and friends.

Charles Thomas Mayer
ATMORE - Mr. Charles Thomas Mayer, 86, of Atmore died Friday, June 6, 2008 in Mobile. He was a 23-year veteran of the U.S. Air Force, retiring in 1963, an avid reader and enjoyed classical music. He was born on Oct. 9, 1921 in Flushing Long Island, N.Y. to the late Charles Emile and Florence Kelly Mayer.
A daughter, Sharon Mayer Hill and a stepson, Michael Elliott Leff, preceded him in death.
Survivors include, his wife, Sandra Crow Mayer of Atmore; sons, Charles Timothy Mayer and wife, Sharon, Stephen Franklin Mayer and wife, Judy and Paul Gerrard Mayer and wife, Patricia, all of Mobile and Michael Joseph Mayer and wife, Patricia of Frankenmuth, Mich.; stepson, David Wayne Leff and wife, Tonya of Mobile; daughters, Patricia Harden and husband, Brian and Ann Marie Mayer, all of Saucier, Miss.; a brother-in-law, Allan R. Crow and wife, Melissa of Mobile; a sister-in-law, Judy Crow Sherman of Atmore; grandchildren, Jeremy Michael Leff of Auburn, Jennifer Leff Tobias and Jessica Leff Salvo, both of Tallahassee, Fla., Robert and Riley Leff of Fairhope, Megan Brook Leff and Harrison Wayne Leff, both of Mobile, Wendy Mayer Martin and husband, Ben of Concord, N.H., Christina Powell and husband, Jason of Grand Bay, Thomas Hill of California, Benjamin Mayer of Mobile, Brianna Mayer of Frankenmuth, Mich. and Lauren McCrary and Ilya Minshew of Ft. Worth, Texas and three great grandchildren.
A memorial mass will be held on Friday, June 13, 2008 at 4 p.m. from the St. Roberts Bellarmine Church of Atmore with Father Gordon Milsted officiating. Family will receive friends in the church from 3 p.m. until the memorial mass.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials are made to St. Roberts Bellarmine Church at 600 S. Main St., Atmore, AL. 36502.

Verna Lee Pittman
MOLINO, Fla. - Verna Lee Pittman, 84, of Molino, Fla. died Sunday, June 1, 2008. Graveside services were held at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, June 4, 2008 at Highland Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation was held from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North in Cantonment, Fla.
Faith Chapel Funeral Home South was in charge of arrangements.
