Gottfried to speak at alumni meeting
The Escambia County University of Alabama Alumni and Friends meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. on June 12 at the Country Club of Brewton. The cost is $20 and includes a prime rib and fried shrimp dinner.
Coach Philip Pearson, assistant basketball coach at Alabama, was scheduled to be the speaker, but had to cancel. Head basketball coach Mark Gottfried will be speaking instead.

Bugs come to life at Atmore library
The Atmore Public Library will be showing “A Bug's Life” June 12 at 2 p.m. The movie is free to children. The first 30 children will be able to attend so those interested must call and register before Thursday. The library asks that those attending the movie arrive a few minutes early so the movie can begin at 2 p.m.

The McCullough Friendship Club will have a luncheon at David’s Catfish in Atmore on June 12 at 11 a.m.
Voter registration drive rescheduled
Tray Smith’s voter’s registration drive has been rescheduled for Saturday from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. at Winn-Dixie and Sunday from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. at Piggly Wiggly.
Florida and Alabama residents will be able to register as long as they have a driver’s license or social security number.
The drive, which is Smith’s Eagle Scout project, was originally scheduled for Mayfest, but was rained out.

Canoe Baptist Church will host a gospel singing event at 6 p.m. Saturday.
Benefit yard sale to be held June 13
There will be a benefit yard sale and hot dog lunch for Stephanie McMillan at the Atmore Nursing Center on June 14 from 6 a.m. until. Rain or shine! Donations will be accepted June 13. See the activities department for more details.
All proceeds will go to McMillan to assist with medical expenses.
VFW to host flag burning June 14
Atmore area veterans of Atmore VFW Post 7016, Veterans of Foreign Wars, assisted by Boy and Girl Scouts and JROTC Cadets, will dispose of old, worn and tatted flags on June 14 at 6 p.m. at the VFW Post, located at 206 West Ashley St. Anyone who has flags for disposal can drop flags in a box located on the post’s front steps before the ceremony or bring them on Saturday, June 14th. Any and everyone are also cordially invited to attend this meaningful and respectful ceremony.
Since June 14 is National Flag Day, everyone is also asked to respect “Old Glory” by flying their American Flags proudly on Flag Day.
First Presbyterian VBS begins June 16
The First Presbyterian Church will hold VBS June 16-20 from 8:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. Children ages 2 through sixth grade are invited to attend.
FPC’s theme for this year’s event is “Faith Expedition Vacation Bible School.” “Faith Expedition VBS” is about following Chris and Kelly, two young explorers, through thrilling adventures on their way to discover God’s treasure.

Beulah Camp to host Master’s Men
The Master’s Men will be in concert at Beulah Camp Ground June 14 at 7 p.m. The camp meeting will run from June 12-22 with services at 10:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. daily.

Zion Star A.M.E. VBS begins June 16
Zion Star A.M.E. ECMS to host Visionaries concert
Visionaries Production will present the 2008 Summer Gospel Explosion featuring George Dean &the Gospel Four of Memphis, Tenn. live in concert along with Atmore’s own, The Visionaries, at 3 p.m. on June 22 in the Escambia County Middle School gymnasium. First Presbyterian hosts Bible Study
The Atmore community is invited to the study, “Vertically Inclined: Climbing Higher with God” by author, Mary Kassian. This exciting, seven-session, video-based study is especially designed to show Christian women how, by tethering themselves more securely to Him, they can climb to greater spiritual heights.
Along the way, participants will be challenged to: develop an increased loyalty to Christ and His work; to examine their values and renew their determination; to take steps to increase their love for Christ, and to enjoy Him more.
The study begins June 25 and will run for seven weeks, meeting each Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church on Horner Street. Childcare will be provided and the cost of the study book is $15.
