Summer fun is underway at the Atmore Area YMCA with the summer day camps in session.
Children from ages 5 to 12 are able to attend the summer camp at the YMCA and if they are not signed up yet, it is not too late.
Tammy Graham, executive director of the Atmore YMCA, said that the youngest age group is at full capacity, but the older classes still have openings for any parent who wants to sign their child up.
For the children at the YMCA fun comes easily courtesy of arts and crafts, games and even field trips.
Graham said that the children do all sorts of things during the day whether it is going swimming or even attending a Mobile Baybears game.
Graham and the counselors at the YMCA watch out for the children to make sure they do not get into trouble or get hurt in any type of accident.
She said that during extremely hot days they keep the children inside so they will not get too hot or dehydrated.
She adds this also teaches the children the safety of playing inside so they will not work up too much of a sweat.
Several upcoming field trips for the summer campers include a trip to the movie theater on June 17 to see “Kung Fu Panda.”
Campers will go swimming at Little River on June 26.
On July 3 the campers will go to the Brewton YMCA to compete in a mini Olympics that will include a cookout.
The day of July 24, the summer camp attendees will go to Little River to swim and picnic, but the 10-12 year old group will stay the night for an annual campout.
Graham said that the summer campers are also going to Bay Minette for a field trip.
