Rachel Patterson Elementary School Jump Start students took a trip to Dean and Beth Smith’s farm Monday morning to visit with cows, horses, ponies, chicks and more.
Jump Start secretary Sandra Hare said the students have visited the farm for several years as a part of the program for pre-kindergarten children.
The day is about showing the students a good time by introducing them to different animals, including baby chicks and potbellied pigs, but it’s also a learning experience. The Jump Start program has a variety of different programs that are fun, but mind enhancing for students and the farm tour is just of those programs.
While at the farm students took a tour of the Smith’s property, which had many animals and a lake to view. During the hayride the students were given the opportunity to feed corn to the many cows on the land.
Students also took their photos on Domino the pony that the Smiths will have developed and give to each child.
Beth Smith said she enjoys having the students out at the farm for a tour of the animals and a hayride.
