Johnson has visited several U.S. sites

(This week The Atmore Advance spotlights 63-year-old Nellie Johnson.)
Q: When and where were you born?
A: I was born in Monroe Co. on Nov. 12, 1944.
Q: Who were your parents?
A: Freeman and Sarah Smith.
Q: What did your parents do for a living?
A: He did pulpwood and worked at furniture factory. She worked at Vanity Fair.
Q: Do you have any brothers or sisters?
A: I have eight brothers and sisters.
Q: Where did you attend school?
A: J.U. Blacksher.
Q: Do you do a lot of traveling?
A: The last two years we have. Last summer we went to Washington, D.C. and Canton, Ohio to the football Hall of Fame. And we did all the tours there in D.C.
The year before that we went to a mountain in Georgia.
We’ve been to Orlando, Fla. to Universal Studios.
We just got back from California.
We left here and went to the Alamo in Texas, left there and went to the Salt River Canyon. We went to the Grand Canyon and Yosemite in California. The boys went to Disneyworld while they were out there.
Q: Where did you work?
A: Vanity Fair in both Atmore and Monroeville.
Q: Where have you lived?
A: We lived in Missouri for a while and Wetumpka and Atmore and we’re back to Goodway now.
Q: What do you like most about Atmore?
A: I really don’t know. I like the (Huxford SAIL) Center.
And my Eastern Star meetings. That’s a part of the Masons. We meet the second and fourth Mondays of the month.
Q: Did you ever marry?
A: Yes.
Q: What is your spouse’s name?
A: Willie.
Q: How long have you been married?
A: 47 years.
Q: What made your spouse the one for you?
A: He was somebody I grew up with.
Q: Do you have children?
A: Three. Sandy is the oldest and then there are Mike and Mitch.
Q: Do you have any grandchildren?
A: I have six grand kids and a grand stepdaughter. I have two great grandkids.
Q: What keeps you busy these days?
A: Running back and forth to the doctor and drug stores and also traveling.
Q: What is your favorite food?
A: Chicken.
Q: What advice would you like to give people on staying healthy?
A: Get out and walk if you can.
