Hard work and effort pushed Atmore’s 11-year-old Cal Ripken All-Stars to a victory in their district tournament and put them on a road to a chance for a state title.
Players on Tim McAnally’s team apparently know where this type of effort gets them and have taken it off the field to ensure they have the funds to make it to state.
McAnally’s team worked a shift last Thursday at Southern Family Markets bagging groceries to raise money for their trip.
McAnally said it was a group effort but the organizer of the event was his 14-year-old son, Nolan.
He added that Nolan called the grocery store and set up a time when the team could come out and work.
A reason for the fundraising effort is the expenses that everyone will have to pay to make the trip to Alex City.
McAnally said with prices of things, such as gas so high, it was a great idea to try raising money for the trip.
Atmore’s Cal Ripken 11-year-old All-Stars leave Friday for their state tournament and open up Saturday at 9 a.m. and play their second game at 1 p.m.
