Lead, environment board to meet today
Escambia County Lead and Environmental Coalition Board meeting will be held July 9 at Atmore Public Library at 1:30 p.m. The public is invited.

Gospel event slated for July 12
The Southern Gospel Believers of Monroe County will be at Calvary Deliverance Temple on Hwy. 97 on July 12th at 7 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend.

Brewton Community Theater, Inc. will present “The Wizard of Oz” July 11-12 at 7 p.m. nightly and July 13 at 2 p.m. at Jefferson Davis Community College in Woodfin Patterson Auditorium.
Admission for the production is $7.
Scott, Johnson unite from July 11-13
The 2008 Scott/Johnson reunion will be held July 11-13.
Get acquainted from 7 p.m. until 10 p.m. on Friday, July 11 at the First Baptist Church in McCullough. There will be a picnic beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 12 at the Claude D. Kelly State Park. On Sunday, July 13, join the family for church services at First Baptist Church in McCullough beginning at 11 a.m.

Barnes family reunion July 11-13
The extended families of Elias L. Barnes and wife Elizabeth Lee will be coming together July 11-13 for a joyous family reunion at the Bethlehem Camp Ground in Bethlehem, Florida. The campground has dorm rooms, motel rooms, swimming pool, tennis and basketball courts and most importantly air conditioning!
The weekend will consist of getting to know one another, genealogy sessions (so bring your old family photos and information), pot luck dinners, fish fry and lots of fun for young and old alike.

County commission to meet July 14
Please take notice that the Escambia County Commission will conduct a regular session at 9 a.m. on Monday, July 14, 2008 in the County Commission Chambers, Room 201, at the Escambia County Courthouse in Brewton.
The administrative Workshop will be held at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 10, 2008.
Fiddler’s Convention to be held July 19
The 29th Atmore Rotary Fiddler’s Convention will be held on July 19 at 2 p.m. at Rachel Patterson Elementary School. The Rotary Club is looking for a few judges for the event. If you or someone else you know is interested, call Keith Castleberry at 368-2106.
Mt. Shiloh to host fashion show, brunch
Mt. Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church Building Fund will hold a Fashion Show and Brunch July 19 at 2 p.m.

"Miracles" will be the theme of this year's Vacation Bible School at Trinity Episcopal Church in Atmore. This year's session will be held from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. July 21 through July 25. On Friday the 25th, there will be a Family Night celebration.

Sardis Church revival begins on July 20
Sardis Baptist Church will host a revival on July 20-23. Morning worship will be at 11 a.m. and Sunday evening worship will be at 6 p.m.
Services will begin with food and fellowship in the fellowship hall each evening at 6 p.m. throughout the week and the worship service will follow at 7 p.m.
The Rev. Jerry Caylor will be the Evangelist and there will be special music.

St. Anna’s VBS to begin July 28
St. Anna’s Episcopal Church, located at 100 Lynn McGhee Drive in Poarch, has scheduled Vacation Bible School (VBS) that will be held afternoons from July 28 through August 1 from noon until 4 p.m. Emphasis will be on Bible study, service music, storytelling and crafts. Carpooling to and from Atmore will be arranged if warranted. Lunch and refreshments will be provided. NWE registration held on Saturdays
Northwest Escambia football registration will be held from 10 a.m. until noon every Saturday in July at the Ernest Ward football field.

Train-the-Trainer slated for July 19
The FDIC in collaboration with Jefferson Davis Community College, United Bank and the Concerned Citizens of Atmore (a faith-based community group) will conduct a “Train-the-Trainer: Instruction for Financial Education” workshop on July 19 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.
This is a free seminar designed to present the basics of classroom instruction to enable and empower volunteers to deliver approximately one-hour long courses on the FDIC’s Money Smart curriculum to communities. The primary purpose is to provide the class participant with tools that may enhance their skills as a classroom instructor in teaching the Money Smart modules. The seminar on how to present the Money Smart curriculum.
Participants are encouraged to teach one or more of the Money Smart modules to community members within the next 12 months.
A certificate of completion will be provided to attendees. The session will be limited to the first 20 enrollees and a light lunch will be provided. It is important to arrive on time.
Register for the session as soon as possible and no later than July 11 by completing a registration/RSVP form and a pre-course questionnaire. Forms can be acquired via email. Those interested should email John Olsen at jolsen@fdic.gov to receive the forms. The session will be held at Jefferson Davis Community College Atmore Campus, located at 6574 Hwy. 21 North.
