Dr. Auty Horn has an array of experience in education and he is bringing that knowledge to Rachel Patterson Elementary School as assistant principal.
Horn’s official first day at RPES is July 28, but has already been familiarizing himself with the school.
Horn has an extensive history in education and administration. He has been a personnel administrator for the Mobile County Public School System, the principal at Chastang Middle School in Mobile, Sumter County Elementary School in Americus, Ga. and Green Acres Middle School in Birmingham, the assistant principal at Mattie T. Blount High School in Mobile, Phillips Preparatory School in Mobile and Hamilton Elementary/Wilmer Elementary in Mobile. He has also taught at Adams Middle School in Mobile and has worked with the Georgia Department of Education as an instructional specialist.
Horn has a doctorate of education in educational leadership from Nova Southeastern University, located in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. He also has a master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of South Alabama, located in Mobile and a bachelor’s degree from the University of South Alabama in language arts.
He has been involved in several organizations including the University of South Alabama Leadership Steering Committee, the Abeneefo Kuo Honor Society, the National Middle School Association and more.
Rachel Patterson principal Susan McKenzie feels having Horn on staff at the school is a great bonus.
