Coach Kyle Davis took his football team to a tournament in Prattville Wednesday and Thursday to test their skills against some of the state’s best teams.
The Blue Devils were one of 14 teams that participated in the Central Alabama 7-on-7 tournament at Prattville High School.
ECHS put up a good performance as they finished fourth in a tournament that featured the two-time reigning 6A champion Prattville Lions, the 4A state champion Central Falcons and other strong football teams.
Davis said pool play started on Wednesday and he liked what he saw from his team.
In pool play the Blue Devils never lost by more than five points.
The Blue Devils started the tournament on Thursday with a game against Carver.
Davis said it was an up hill battle for most of the game, but his team eventually gained the upper hand.
The second game of the tournament featured the Blue Devils against Prattville.
Davis said his team played tough, but in the end it was not enough to stay in the winner’s bracket as ECHS lost 21-19.
In the quarterfinals ECHS played against the state champion Central Falcons.
The Blue Devils lost 18-17 in a game that had some questionable calls, according to Davis.
Even with the loss Davis said he was proud of the way his team competed.
He added that they did not have the full team at the tournament because of schedule conflicts.
