Atmore falls short

Atmore’s 14-15-year-old All-Stars finished second in the Babe Ruth district tournament falling 8-7 in the final game on July 13.
Atmore fell behind early to Monroe County after giving up six runs in the first inning, but rallied back in the third, scoring five.
Nikolas Flowers started the scoring after being hit by a pitch and was advanced by Christian Swartzendruber’s single. Flowers was knocked in by Marshall Rolin’s double.
Rolin hit 2-for-3 on the day with a double, a single, three RBIs and scored two runs.
Keaton Maher brought Swartzendruber and Rolin home with a single and hit a double later in the game.
Haden McGill advanced Maher with a single and the two were knocked in by James Dean and Justin Stabler.
Atmore went cold the next three innings before scoring two runs in the sixth inning.
Nikolas Flowers reached base on a single and was knocked in by Rolin. Rolin scored with the help of McGill’s second single of the day.
Even with all the offense Atmore could not squeeze out one more run and Monroe County is the champion of the 14-15-year-old Babe Ruth district tournament.

Atmore 6
Monroe County eliminated Evergreen in the Babe Ruth 14-15-year-old district tournament on July 12 to move on and face Atmore.
On the brink of elimination Monroe County defeated Atmore in the first of a possible two championship games 11-6.
Nikolas Flowers and Christian Swartzendruber got things started for Atmore in the first inning by scoring one run each.
Jaylen Henry stole a base and scored a run after being walked in the third inning.
Haden McGill reached base by way of a fielder’s choice in the fourth inning and was advanced by James Dean’s single. McGill was knocked in on a sacrifice fly by Justin Stabler.
Henry hit a single in the seventh inning and was knocked in by Flowers, who hit a single.
Flowers advanced after Swartzendruber added a single and was finally brought home by Keaton Maher’s single to score the sixth run for Atmore.
Atmore 8
Monroe County 7
Atmore’s 15-year-old Babe Ruth All-Stars narrowly defeated Monroe County 8-7 on July 11 in the Babe Ruth 14- 15-year-old district tournament.
Nikolas Flowers started the scoring for Atmore in the first inning hitting a single, stealing second base and reaching third after a wild pitch. Flowers was knocked in by Marshall Rolin’s single.
Flowers went 2-for-4 in the game with two singles, stole three bases and scored twice in the win.
Rolin hit 3-for-4 in the game with two singles, a triple, scored one run and had three RBIs.
Christian Swartzendruber had a 3-for-5 day at the plate for Atmore tallying three singles while scoring one run.
Flowers, Rolin and Swartzendruber were a huge factor early in the game all scoring in a three run third inning.
Haden McGill scored in the fourth inning and had a single and stolen base on the day.
Late in the game is when extra runs were needed after Monroe County scored six runs in the sixth inning.
Justin Stabler, Nicholas Linam and Jaylen Henry all scored in the seventh inning to help Atmore win the game and move on in the tournament.
