Dirt was flying Sunday as the Atmore Motocross (MX) Park held another event as a part of their Summer Sizzler.
The event showed appreciation for the nation’s military personnel allowing any current or past members free admission to watch the races.
Track promoter Stephen Hicks said the event was a great event for the hot season.
During the summer, the number of riders at tracks sometimes dwindles because of the heat they have to ride in.
Hicks said the ones that ride throughout the year including the summer months are called die-hards.
He added that there were 100 riders at Atmore MX on Sunday and this even included pro riders as well as some qualified for the Youth and Amateur Nationals, which takes place at the Loretta Lynn Ranch in August.
The park was packed with spectators including civilians and the military personnel that were allowed to enter the park free of charge.
Hicks said he saw several people from the military in attendance that came from around the Panhandle.
Coming up in the next few weeks the Atmore MX Park will host an event on Aug. 24 featuring the Dominos Series.
The Dominos series will feature riders from across the southeast from the states of Georgia, South Carolina and Florida.
Hicks said this event will allow Atmore MX to show appreciation for members of law enforcement as well as emergency services.
