Edna Mae Carden
ATMORE - Edna Mae Carden, 81, of Atmore died Wednesday, July 23, 2008 at her residence. She was an assembly technician with Rayloc, born in Oxford on Aug. 30, 1926 to the late James Elise and Lucille Reaves Sisk.
Her husband, Alvin Eugene Carden; a daughter, Myra Lynn Alexander and a son, Randy Raster Dempsey, preceded her in death.
Survivors include, two sons, Chris Lamar Dempsey of Carrolton, Ga. and Earnest Darrell Pugh of Franklin, Ga.; two daughters, Candy Roxanne Shifflet of Glouster, Ohio and Velvarae Oglesby of Atmore; one sister, Margie Maxwell of Oxford; 26 grandchildren and 39 great grandchildren.
Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 26, 2008 from Mt. Harmony Memorial Gardens at Mableton, Ga. Family received friends from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Friday evening, July 25, 2008 at Davis-Struempf Funeral Home in Austell, Ga.
Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home, Inc. and Davis-Struempf Funeral Home were in charge of all arrangements.
William Henry Burt
CENTURY, Fla. - Mr. William Henry Burt died July 18, 2008. He was born April 5, 1927 in Flomaton to the late John Burt and Lillie Sims Burt.
Mr. Burt was employed at Alger Sullivan Lumber Company and Jim Walter Doors of Century, Fla. until he retired. He was a member of Edward Point Christian Church.
Five sisters, Essie James, Florence Pugh, Lillie L. Davis, Lacy Caffrey and Angie Ricks; three brothers, John B. Burt, Buddy Burt and Archie Burt and one son, William Henry Burt Jr., each preceded him in death.
He leaves to cherish his memories, a wife, Louise Burt; four daughters, Uthena Martha Burt of Century, Fla., Denise (Luis) Gomez of Century, Fla., Rovena Burt of Pensacola, Fla. and Nancy Tracey of Flomaton; one sister, Lola Washington of Flomaton; one sister-in-law, Collie Lee Burt of Century, Fla.; 12 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins and two devoted nieces, Pastor J. Washington-Bradley and Emma Page.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 26, 2008 at Edward Point Christian Church in Century, Fla. with the Rev. Lamar Randell officiating.
Pallbearers included the deacons of Edward Point Christian Church, Alfonzie Cottrell, Melvin Manuel, John Hunter, Robert Tims, Henry Bright and Marcus Johnson. Flower bearers were family and friends.
Christian Memorial Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements.
