If practice makes perfect, then the Escambia County Blue Devil football team is working hard to set a new standard for perfection.
The Blue Devils are working everyday to prepare for their first season in class 5A, which puts them up against opponents such as the reigning state champion St. Paul’s Episcopal and Gulf Shores.
Head coach Kyle Davis said the players are working hard everyday and showing him the effort that proves they want to win.
Each day at workouts the seniors and freshman participate in weight room drills and conditioning sets together and the juniors and sophomores work together.
At practice each group does their core lifts while the other is outside running and after they complete their respective workouts they switch.
Davis said upon completing these workouts the team separates to work on their offensive or defensive schemes.
Summer workouts end next week and on Aug. 4 the real practice begins with three days of just helmets.
Davis said after the three helmet days the team will suit up in full gear and get ready for the first game.
The Blue Devils’ first game is against rival T.R. Miller on Aug. 29 at ECHS.
