Helmets were on as the first official day of football practice started for schools all over the state.
Escambia County High School took the field at 3:30 p.m. and worked through their team to find the right matches for offense and defense.
The team worked through stretches and then specific position drills on the first day of workouts.
Athletic director and head football coach Kyle Davis said the first day of practice went well for a day without pads.
The first three days of practice are run without pads as an evaluation, according to Davis.
Davis said it gives the coaches a chance to make sure the players are conditioned enough to handle the heat in full equipment.
He added that it gives the coaches a chance to see which players they want on the field.
The Blue Devils will put their pads on Thursday to begin preparing for their fist game on Aug. 29 against T.R. Miller.
Davis said the players are ready to put on their pads and feel they have worked hard all summer for that right.
