Escambia County High School band director Dennis Reid suffered medical complications while at a faculty meeting on Monday morning.
Reid was transported to Atmore Community Hospital by ambulance and later transported to Baptist Health Center in Pensacola for further tests.
Sandy Reid, his wife, said he had some swelling on his brain, which is being treated and also a mass found in his chest. She added that he was much more coherent Tuesday and aware of the situation.
Principal Harvey Means said he could not give any information on the condition of Reid, but added that he is in the thoughts and prayers of everyone at ECHS.
Reid does not have an assistant band director at ECHS, but has been helped recently by Justin Gates.
Gates will be filling in for Reid while he is on medical leave, according to Means.
Gates said he hopes Reid gets better and he will be happy to look after the band for now.
Reid said that her husband would undergo a biopsy and more tests today.
She added that he is probably going to be in the hospital until the weekend and possibly out of teaching for a short period.
