Season preparations begin Monday for the Escambia Academy volleyball team.
The Cougars did two weeks of summer workouts to work on agility and techniques.
Head coach Keri Payne said the team worked out for three days each of the two weeks this summer.
The Cougars have one senior on this year’s squad and only return three players, according to Payne.
Payne said this year will be a rebuilding year, but the team has good players.
She added that the tough part is finding out what roles each player can handle.
The way Payne is finding out what skills need to be worked on is certain drills that are important in volleyball.
Payne said she would have her team working on set drills and hitting drills once practice begins.
She added that agility techniques are important so the players can understand how to move around on the court.
The season begins Aug. 21 for the Cougars and they will be playing against Lighthouse Academy from Montgomery.
Payne said the girls are excited about the upcoming season and are ready to play, but just need to get work done before that first game.
