Etheridge is an avid Atlanta Braves fan

(This week The Atmore Advance spotlights 92-year-old Eltra “Sid” Etheridge. Etheridge loves living in Atmore and watching Atlanta Braves baseball.)
Q: When and where were you born?
A: I was born near Huxford on Feb. 9, 1916 in a community called Steadam, which was the name of the school in the area.
Q: Have you always lived in the Atmore area?
A: I grew up in Steadam and after I married I lived in Huxford, Little River and Atmore.
Q: Who were your parents?
A: Heman and Maggie Vickery.
Q: Do you have any brothers or sisters?
A: I grew up with three brothers and two sisters. My brothers being Andrew, Bernard and Orvil Vickery. My sisters were Murvel and Ellie Vickery.
Q: Where did you attend school?
A: I went to school at Huxford and McCullough.
Q: Do you do a lot of traveling?
A: No, I never did much traveling.
Q: Where did you work?
A: I worked at the Rachel Patterson Elementary School lunchroom and the principal thought I made really good rolls. I also worked at the Ribbon Mill.
Q: What do you like most about Atmore?
A: I love living in the city and really enjoy coming to the (Atmore) SAIL Center everyday.
Q: Did you ever marry?
Q: What was your spouse’s name?
A: Earl Etheridge.
Q: Do you have children?
A: Four, LaGrand, Delores, Nancy and Winton Wesley Etheridge.
Q: Do you have grandchildren?
A: Yes, I have a slew of grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Q: Where do you attend church?
A: I attend Community of Christ Church.
Q: What is your favorite TV show?
A: I really enjoy watching all the Atlanta Braves baseball games during the season.
Q: What keeps you busy these days?
A: Visiting the (Atmore) SAIL Center and talking with my friends and just enjoying the fellowship.
Q: What is your favorite food?
A: I like to eat almost anything and I am not picky.
Q: What advice would you like to give people on staying healthy?
A: Eat right and do not be afraid to work. I used to pick 300 pound bags of cotton and I still think I look good for my age.
