Tiger Woods began playing golf at age two, 15-year-old Keaton Maher started playing golf six months ago.
What do they have in common?
It is not the millions of dollars in earnings, the Nike endorsement or even that they are both chip with the best.
Woods and Maher have two things in common and that is they both enjoy playing golf and they both win.
Maher picked up clubs six months ago when Escambia Academy started a golf team. He played in three tournaments at Evergreen, Monroeville and in Atmore and qualified for the state tournament with his best score of 88.
Maher said upon hearing that EA was starting a golf team he became interested in the sport and tried out.
After school let out, Maher decided he wanted to continue playing golf and signed up for the First Tee program.
The First tee program is offered in Northwest Florida to teach children from the ages of 9 to 18 the skills and values of golf.
While in the program, Maher played in five tournaments in Florida and placed first in three nine-hole courses and one 18-hole course.
Maher played at Hidden Creek in Navarre, Fla., Scenic Hills and Marcus Point in Pensacola,Fla. Perdido Bay and Stonebrook in Pace, Fla.
Maher said two of the tournaments offered nice courses and were his favorite to play at.
Maher plans to continue playing golf with EA and would like to further his experience.
Maher said he would like to tryout for an amateur in the future.
