New voices will be yelling from the sidelines at games and practices this fall for the Escambia County Blue Devils as two new coaches have been added to head coach Kyle Davis’ staff.
John Saxon and Henry Calhoun have been hired to bring new ideas to the table, according to Davis. Davis added that Saxon brings the experience and Calhoun youth and excitement.
Saxon has served as head coach in several different sports at the high school level, but spent three years in the college ranks as a kickers coach.
At ECHS, he is working with special teams as well as receivers.
Saxon said he spent the 2000 college football season with Kentucky under then head coach Hal Mumme and then under former Louisville head coach John L. Smith from 2001-02. He added that he is excited to be in Atmore and is just handling his business on the field.
Calhoun is taking his first trip around the coaching ranks and is still adjusting to Atmore and the Blue Devils’ system.
Calhoun comes from Pensacola and said Atmore is a shock to him.
Calhoun is coaching the Blue Devils’ defensive ends and said he likes what he has seen from his position. He added that two of his players run under 4.6 seconds in the 40-yard dash.
Calhoun and Saxon make their coaching debut on the Blue Devils’ sideline on Aug. 29 against the rival T.R. Miller Tigers.
