All the training and practicing done by the Escambia Academy Cougars comes to a head and will be measured on Friday night when they kick off the 2008 season with rival Sparta.
The Cougars will be looking to start this season off with a bang and gain a sixth straight victory over the Sparta Warriors.
Head coach Heath Gibson said he and his team have been studying film looking for any weaknesses in the Warriors’ offense or defense.
He added that he knows that Sparta’s strength is their speed and he expects them to use it.
The play of the Cougars’ offensive and defensive line will have an impact on the outcome of the game, according to Gibson.
Gibson said the physicality of the line on both sides of the ball is intense and he added he thinks he can use it to exploit other faults the Warriors have.
The coaches and players at EA are excited about the match up and finally getting the opportunity to hit someone each other than themselves.
Gibson said he knows his team will try their best and hopes they can gain a win on their home field.
He added that it is time to put up or shut up and wants his guys to fight hard.
