Tropical Storm Fay is expected to dump several inches of rain on Atmore throughout the weekend and Atmore mayor Howard Shell says the city is prepared for the worst.
Shell said officials with the police, fire and street departments and Atmore Utilities Board personnel met Friday morning to go over the city’s “emergency plan” in preparation for possible flooding or damage from high winds associated with the storm.
In addition to city services, Shell said the hospital is also bracing for the storm.
Although storm predictions for south Alabama, including Atmore, have varied since Wednesday, Shell believes the city is well prepared should it get its fair share of the wind and rain.
Officers with the Atmore Police Department will be on call and in full force should flooding and other damages occur, Shell said. He also said a crew with the Atmore Utilities Board would be on duty Saturday evening to respond to any needs.
Shell also encourages residents not to take the flooding lightly.
