The Atmore Police Department is investigating the events leading up to a murder that occurred Sunday evening in Atmore.
According to a release issued by the department Monday morning, officers responded to a domestic disturbance at 50 Ashley Street at around 8:29 p.m. and discovered Teoria M. McNeal, 36, lying in the floor with a stab wound to the chest. She later died at Atmore Community Hospital.
Officers later learned during their investigation that a verbal altercation ensued between McNeal and her boyfriend, Milton Simpson Jr., 42. Simpson was not present at the scene when officers arrived. While on the scene, officers were told Simpson was at the police department. Simpson was later arrested and charged with murder.
Simpson was later transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.
