Escambia County Commissioners got a lesson on the dangers of rotting waste during Monday’s meeting of the group.
Lynn Ellis, a healthcare worker and Ridge Road resident, addressed the commission concerning the lack of garbage pick-up on Labor Day by Allied Waste. Allied Waste is contracted with the county to provide household garbage pickup.
Ellis said the waste has been exposed to the elements for two weeks, including heat and rain.
Todd Williamson, district 2 commissioner, said he had received several calls concerning the overflow of garbage caused by the lack of pickup service during the Labor Day holiday week.
Williamson said he has also been concerned with the amount of garbage that county residents have had to deal with over the two weeks without service.
Commission Chairman David Stokes said calls to Allied Waste have been responded to well by officials there.
In other business, the commission:
Commissioner Larry White recommended Roe for the position stating he was active in the Barnett’s Crossroads Fire Department and was aware of issues facing the county.
