The Atmore Hall of Fame committee met Wednesday, Sept. 24 to discuss preparations for the induction ceremony that will be held Saturday, Nov. 22.
Five inductees will be honored that evening with a dinner starting at 6 p.m.
George Mosby will be inducted as well as Claude Kelley, Joseph Latham Sr., George (G.R.) Robinson Swift Sr. and Dr. James Brooks (J.B.) Thomas who will be inducted posthumously.
Committee member Charlotte Boyle read the menu for the buffet-style dinner catered by What’s Cooking?. On the menu is salad, baked chicken, twice baked potatoes, bean bundle, cheesecake and tea and coffee to drink.
The committee then discussed who would be introducing the candidates and who would be accepting for the deceased.
The committee also discussed ticket sales and availability. Last year, there were 122 people in attendance and the committee expects equal attendance this year.
Committee members were then passed out tickets to sell and encouraged to take them around town.
Tickets for the event are $15 and will be on sale Oct. 1 at various locations in town including First National Bank and Trust, United Bank, the Atmore Advance and the Atmore News.
Chairman Lou Vickery told the committee an anecdote of seeing a former acquaintance and speaking with her about the Hall of Fame.
After the meeting Boyle said, “It means so much to the citizens. It’s a wonderful thing to honor those that have meant so much to the establishment of this town. We want to show our appreciation for the past and present.”
Vickery agreed with Boyle and said, “It’s an important thing to recognize. For a small town, we have a lot of people who have achieved so much in various fields,” he said. “They made a viable contribution whether locally or somewhere beyond the town that brought honor and recognition to Atmore.”
