Homecoming came and went for the Escambia Academy Cougars, who fell to Wilcox Academy 25-20 Friday night at Bachelor Field.
The Cougars (0-6, 0-3) have yet to find victory this season and could not keep up with the Wildcats.
Head coach Heath Gibson said his players thought this might be an opportunity to gain a victory.
EA was led offensively by seniors Jeff Price and Kawetta Coon who combined for more than 330 yards of offense.
Price had 18 carries for 111 yards, while throwing 7-of-18 for 114 yards.
Coon carried the ball 14 times racking up 107 yards. He had two touchdown runs of five and 65-yards.
Gibson said Coon is a great running back who never stops pushing his legs.
The problems for EA started on defense and not being able to stop the Wildcats.
Gibson said his team could not keep up with the Wildcats when on defense.
He added that even with high tackling numbers, the Cougars could not tackle well.
Senior Nick Carlin led the Cougars in tackles with 17, senior Will Hendrix finished with 11 tackles, senior Blake Kirk had nine tackles and senior Cody Ware ended the night with eight.
Up next for the Cougars is their first of three straight road games starting with Marengo Academy.
Gibson said the team just needs to rethink what they are doing and go back to the basics in practice.
