Hard times have fallen upon the Escambia Academy Cougars who travel Friday to Linden to take on the Marengo Academy Longhorns.
The Cougars (0-6, 0-3) are looking to bring their season-long losing streak to an end and salvage their final five games.
Coming off one of their stronger performances this season in a 35-20 loss to Wilcox Academy, the Cougars look to capitalize on the offensive production they put up against the Wildcats.
Head coach Heath Gibson said new steps are going to be taken since the Cougars have started moving the ball down field.
The Cougars are going back to their base offense, which they have moved away from in recent games.
Gibson said the team will fall back into the I-formation as a way to improve game management. He added that it gives the Cougars some different looks when selecting a play.
Defensively, the Cougars will stay in their base and use a 6-1-4 formation.
Gibson said he is counting on another big defensive performance after several players had 10 or more tackles last week.
He added that he expects the same output from last week’s leading tackler.
The Cougars play at Marengo Academy beginning at 7 p.m.
