Four hundred Perdido residents faced turning on empty faucets this week after their water supplier, the Perdido Water Authority, had nearly $15,000 in outstanding bills due to the Atmore Utilities Board.
Fortunately for them, the Water Authority hand delivered a check for the $7,580 owed for June on Monday to the Utilities Board.
Utilities Board Director Tom Wolfe said they notified the Water Authority Oct. 2 that if payment were not received by Oct. 9 water would be cut off.
The Perdido Water Authority, which buys its water wholesale from the City of Atmore, originally paid their June water bill with a cashier’s check, but gave the wrong copy of the check to the Atmore Utilities Board.
There are still two remaining Perdido Water Authority bills the Utilities Board is finding a discrepancy with. These bills total $7,164.45 and are from April and September.
The Water Authority has until the next billing cycle, which is the beginning of November, to pay the other two debts if records continue to show they were not paid.
The Utilities Board has not had any previous issues with the Water Authority.
The Perdido Water Authority could not be reached for comment as of press time.
