The Escambia Academy Cougars are winding down a stretch of three straight road games still in search of that elusive first victory.
This week EA travels to Selma to play the Meadowview Trojans.
The Cougars (0-8, 0-4) have fought a losing battle all season long, with low numbers getting lower due to injuries.
The road through the 2008 season never looked easy for the football team at EA being placed with the toughest schedule, and that schedule has shown its strength, with the majority of games lopsided.
Head coach Heath Gibson said the Trojans are a good football team with a lot of athleticism that helps run their spread offense. He added that one receiver is a key focus for the defense.
Offensively, the Cougars struggled last week to keep drives together and also in catching passes.
Gibson said for the Cougars to have any chance against Meadowview they need to eliminate all mistakes. He added that the offense needs to be a force and push the ball down the field.
The Cougars’ defense has had trouble stopping opponents this season, but never gives up on themselves.
Gibson said the defense will focus on getting in the backfield this week and trying to force the quarterback into bad situations.
Kickoff is at Meadowview at 7 p.m.
