Escambia County’s first season in Class 5A closes out this Friday with a match up against the Class 6A Robertsdale Golden Bears.
The Blue Devils (2-7, 1-6) have endured a rough first season in their jump up to Class 5A but have kept several of their games close.
Head coach Kyle Davis said the season has been tough, but it has given the Blue Devils something to study and build on for next season.
The Golden Bears (2-7, 0-6) have also faced a grueling schedule and have found it hard to put anything into the win column.
Davis said Robertsdale is a good team, but they have found the same struggles as ECHS.
The match up for the Blue Devils and the Golden Bears is nothing new, with the teams playing a spring game in May.
Davis said the previous match up gives both teams some insight as to what the other might do.
The keys to the game are simple for the Blue Devils offense, according to Davis.
Davis said the offense needs to score points. He added that execution is necessary for any offensive production to be successful.
The defense has been the bright spot for the Blue Devils, with them keeping every game as close they can.
Davis said the defense needs to continue its solid play.
A win could help the Blue Devils program as they move into the offseason.
Davis said a win would give ECHS something to build on for 2009.
Kickoff is at 7 p.m. at Herbert Barnes Stadium.
