Riley’s visit could pay big dividends
Gov. Bob Riley’s visit to Atmore Tuesday announced an exciting opportunity for the city.
If the sugar cane test site proves to be viable, Atmore could become one of the centers of the fast-growing alternative fuel industry, an industry that not only has the potential for huge economic growth, but more importantly, could help to make our country energy independent.
No matter what party you relate to, every one can agree on the use of alternative fuel as a positive step for our country.
Not only will it strengthen national security by lessening reliance on foreign oil, but it’s a environmentally friendlier fuel, reducing carbon emissions by more than 80 percent, according to Amyris CEO John Melo.
We are lucky in Atmore to have industries, such as Creek Enterprises, to foster growth in our town while the rest of the nation is seeing nothing but downturns.
If successful, this could lead to a huge economic boom for our city.
