Christmas is the time for giving, but for former world heavyweight and middleweight champion Roy Jones Jr. this is the time to give something other than blows to the body or face.
Jones visited the City of Atmore Saturday night to give out toys to children in need at the Atmore Area YMCA.
Jones is a spokesperson for Chuck Stevens Chevrolet, and is friends with the Atmore business owner.
Jones said he enjoyed being in Atmore, and added he enjoyed giving out the toys to the children because of the special time of year.
The toy drive distributed toys to more than 175 children, and Jones also signed autographs and spoke to the families.
Chuck Stevens Chevrolet co-owner Chad Bartz said the drive went well, and that Jones enjoyed himself and meeting with all the families. He added that Jones even made a trip outside to visit with families that were not able to get into the toy drive.
Christmas is one of Jones’ favorite times of the year.
He said he has a lot of holiday traditions, but the act of giving is at the top of his list.
The toy drive will continue next year, according to Bartz.
Bartz said everyone hopes to make the event even better next year.
