Lady Devils runners-up in county

Escambia County’s Lady Blue Devils finished as the runners-up in the Escambia County tournament after a 63-49 victory over the Flomaton Lady Hurricanes Monday night.
The Lady Blue Devils (10-4, 0-0) fought back from a disappointing loss against T.R. Miller to finish second in the county.
ECHS was led by guard Tiarra Ankum’s 14 points, while guard Jodeci Craft added 12 and guard Lateasha Lee posted 11 points in the victory.
The Lady Blue Devils fought back-and-forth early on with Flomaton, but started to pull away in the second quarter.
Lady Blue Devils head coach Ray Greer said he was proud of the way his team bounced back after their loss on Saturday.
At halftime, the Lady Blue Devils led the Flomaton Lady Canes 30-22 and continued the scoring mayhem in the third and fourth quarters.
ECHS guard Tiffani Madison scored three points in the win, while forward Courtney English scored two points and forwards Cha’Nae Lyles and Jordan Jaye added one point each.
When the final buzzer sounded, ECHS was able to celebrate a second-place finish in the county tournament and their 10th win of the season.

The Lady Blue Devils suffered its fourth loss of the season in its second-round matchup against the Lady Tigers of T.R. Miller.
The Lady Blue Devils (9-4, 0-0) fell to Miller 63-40, which is their second loss of the season to the Lady Tigers.
Lady Blue Devils guard Lateasha Lee scored 14 points in the loss and paced the rest of the team. ECHS guard Megan Hartley added nine points, and Lady Blue Devils forward Courtney English scored eight points.
The Lady Tigers pulled away early in the game and continued their run in the second half holding ECHS to 43 points.
Lady Blue Devils head coach Ray Greer said the loss shows that his team still has work to do to get better.
Lady Blue Devils center Brittany Martin scored four points in the loss, while forwards Jordan Jaye and Canauasha Crenshaw added two points each. Forward Jasmine Tolbert scored one point.

Escambia County’s Lady Blue Devils won their opening round game of the Escambia County basketball tournament with a 60-39 crushing of the W.S. Neal Lady Blue Eagles.
The Lady Blue Devils (9-3, 0-0) cruised to the victory behind senior forward Courtney English’s 17 points and senior guard Lateasha Lee’s 16 points.
R. Davis and K. Kyles paced the Lady Blue Eagles by scoring in double digits. Davis finished the game with 13 points and Kyles scored 12 in the loss.
Lady Blue Devils head coach Ray Greer said English and Lee stepped up their play in this game, and pushed the Lady Blue Devils to victory.
At halftime, the Lady Blue Devils led Neal 26-25 after a scoring battle up and down the court.
Lady Blue Devils senior center Brittany Martin added six points, while sophomore forward Jordan Jaye scored six points as well.
In the third quarter, ECHS pulled away outscoring the Lady Blue Eagles 21-8 and entered the fourth quarter with a 47-33 lead.
Lady Blue Devil guards Jodeci Craft and Megan Hartley scored four points apiece for ECHS in the victory.
In the final period, the Lady Blue Devils pulled even further ahead of their opponents and scored 13 points and only allowed six by Neal.
Lady Blue Devils forward Jasmine Tolbert scored three points in the victory, while guards Diamond Williams and Cha’Nai Lyles scored two points each.
Greer said the victory showed how good his team can be, but added that they need to pick up a win against Miller to prove themselves even more.
