ATMORE - Alice Rich Walker, 89, of Atmore dies on Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2009 at Atmore Community Hospital. Born in Mocksville, N.C. on August 1, 1919, she was one of six children born to the late S. Oscar and Helen Chafin Rich. In addition to her parents and four of her siblings, her husband, John B. Walker, and her daughter, Betty Bates, preceded her in death.
Mrs. Walker was a graduate of East Carolina University in Greenville, N.C. and taught in Monroe County and Escambia County schools for more than 30 years.
Survivors include her son, Frank McCreary, III and his wife, Gail Ann of Long Beach, Miss.; daughter, Patsy Brickell and her husband, Jim of Charlotte N.C.; one brother, Marshall Rich of Winchester, Va.; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held for Mrs. Walker at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 17, 2009 at Oak Hill Cemetery. Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home is serving the family of Mrs. Walker.
