Lady Cougars lose to Patrician 40-33

Escambia Academy’s Lady Cougars could not pull off late game heroics and allowed the Patrician Academy Lady Saints to leave Canoe with a 40-33 victory on Tuesday night.
The Lady Cougars (4-10) fell behind early in the game and could not catch up to Patrician in the second half.
In the first quarter, EA gave up 12 points to the Lady Saints and could only score six.
During the second quarter, the offense did not produce any better as the Lady Cougars only added five more points to their total before halftime, and the Lady Saints chipped in six more to take a 18-11 lead into the locker room.
Lady Cougars head coach Heath Gibson said turnovers were the problem for his team in the first half.
After halftime, the Lady Cougars played much better and started scoring more points.
In the third period, EA outscored the Lady Saints by posting 11 points and using strong defense to hold Patrician to 10 points in the quarter.
Patrician fought back in the fourth quarter and scored 12 points, while the Lady Cougars could only add 11, and suffered another loss.
Gibson said his team played well at some points, but could not climb back into the game.
Sophomore guard KayLeigh Miller paced the Lady Cougars with 16 points, while shooting 2-of-5 from the free throw line. Miller also recorded five rebounds, four steals and two assists in the loss.
Lady Cougars’ sophomore forward Taylor Helton added seven points with nine rebounds, three blocks, two assists and one steal. Helton also shot 1-for-2 at the charity stripe.
Senior Andrea Nall chipped in six points and four rebounds, while sophomore Amber Huskey scored four points. Huskey also pulled down 10 rebounds and had three blocks, three steals and two assists.
The Lady Cougars next game is Tuesday at home against Marengo Academy. Tip off is at 6 p.m.
