Cougars JV takes runner-up in state

Escambia Academy’s junior varsity boys basketball team finished second in the AISA state tournament on Saturday.
The Cougars won two of their three games.
The wins came against the Southern Cougars and Edgewood Academy.
The Cougars defeated Southern 32-29 in the opening round of the tournament.
Darron McGhee paced the Cougars in the game scoring 11 points. McGhee recorded a double double by pulling down 12 boards and also secured two steals.
Jarrett Hadley supported McGhee’s performance with eight points, four rebounds and two steals.
Cougars guard James Dean chipped in seven points. He also dished out four assists and three steals in the win.
Brandon Goddard added six points, while pulling down five boards and two steals.
Cougars 58
Edgewood 45
Against Edgewood Academy, the Cougars capitalized throughout the game and won 58-45.
McGhee again led the Cougars in scoring and posted another double-double. McGhee scored 16 points and pulled down 10 boards in the victory.
James Dean played his best game of the tournament and chipped in 14 points, while snagging two steals.
Brandon Goddard added seven points and three rebounds for the Cougars in the victory.
Jarrett Hadley scored four points and pulled down five rebounds, while Jordan Sasser scored three points.
Tanner Boatwright pulled down two rebounds, had two steals and scored two points.
