CENTURY, Fla. - Mr. Tom Nick Mathis, 76, passed away Friday, Jan. 23, 2009 in Century, Fla.
Mr. Mathis was a native and lifelong resident of Century, Fla. He was an employee of D.J. Bondurant Lumber Company for 17 and 1/2 years, a city councilman for the town of South Flomaton, retired from Independent Life and Accident Insurance Company, and from Liberty National Life Insurance Company, an avid fisherman and attended the Tabernacle Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Mae Moore Mathis.
Survivors incldue, a very special friend and companion, Betty Jackson of Brewton; three sons, Jimmy Ray and Phyllis Mathis of Byrneville, Fla., Bobby Mathis of Flomaton and Tommy Lee and Melanie Mathis of West Palm Beach, Fla.; eight grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren, two brothers, Noah C. and Chiquita Mathis Jr. of Century, Fla. and John and Luvirn Mathis of Atmore; a sister, Ida Mae Welch of Pensacola, Fla. and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2009 at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Hart officiating. Burial will follow at Flomaton cemetery. Visitation was held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, Jan. 26, 2009 at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home. Pallbearers were, Dennis Mathis, Nick Mathis, Jason Mathis, Jeremy Mathis, Eric Mathis, Josh Barnes and Zac Sims.
