Law enforcement agents began searching the gravel pit behind Judson’s Cemetery off of Jack Springs Rd. Saturday morning for the body of Melinda Wall McGhee.
The Escambia County (Ala.) Sheriff’s office searched the gravel pit after receiving a tip that McGhee’s body could be buried there.
Escambia County Sheriff Grover Smith said his office did receive information, but do not have proof that McGhee’s body is there.
McGhee has been missing since March 24, 2003 when her husband returned home and could not find her at their home on Kent Rd.
Smith said the information did warrant an extensive search of the gravel pit.
In addition to the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office, the FBI, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, the Poarch Police Department, the North Baldwin Search and Rescue Squad, the Escambia County (Ala.) Rescue Squad, the Escambia County (Ala.) Search Dog Association and officers with the Alabama Wildlife &Fisheries Division aided in the search.
