In the early morning hours following his birthday, 22-year-old Randall Helton was killed in a car accident on Presley Street.
Atmore Police Department Investigator Scott Walden said the department received a call at 2:49 a.m. and officers responded immediately to the scene along with Kelley’s Ambulance Service, which pronounced Helton dead at the scene.
According to Walden, Helton was driving a Chevrolet pick-up truck accompanied by friend Terrell Still when the vehicle ran off of Presley Street near Pine Street and into a power pole.
Still’s stepmother, Stephanie Still, said she was told the car then flipped several times.
Walden said Helton was ejected from the vehicle and they believe Still was as well, which his stepmother confirmed. The vehicle then came to a stop on a second power pole.
Still suffered a non-life threatening head injury and was transported to Atmore Community Hospital where he was taken into surgery and is now in stable condition.
Walden said the accident is still under investigation.
