The United Fund of Atmore has received another boost towards making their yearly fundraising goal after the Winn-Dixie Foundation donated $2,500 to the organization Saturday bringing the year’s total to $55,344.
Winn-Dixie Store Manager Erik Patterson said United Fund member Chad Bartz had reached out to him about donating to the organization and thought it was an ideal way to benefit the community.
Patterson said Winn-Dixie Inc. has three separate charitable organizations to benefit communities and was happy to apply for a grant for the United Fund.
Renee Hardy, United Fund second vice-president, said the organization was thankful for Winn-Dixie’s contribution.
Hardy said they were also appreciative of the store allowing members of the organization to bag groceries to raise money on Saturday.
Bartz said the event was a fun and different way to raise funds.
The bagging event raised $631 for the United Fund, and Bartz said he hopes the community will continue to give.
