Escambia County Commissioners unanimously declared the “Take Pride County Wide” recycling a success.
The countywide event took place Saturday with drop off locations in Atmore, Brewton and Flomaton. The event was an effort coordinated by county officials to help keep discarded electronics from finding their way into streams and woodlands around the county.
Escambia County’s EMA director, David Adams, who helped in coordinating the effort, said the public response was positive and plentiful.
Adams said at least four semi-trailer loads of recyclable electronics were taken in during the one-day event.
Adams said. “It will probably take about three more trailers to get all of the recycled matter ready to send away. Most of what was placed in the trailers was stacked from floor to ceiling. This was an outstanding effort taken on by our commissioners and I thank you.”
Escambia County Commissioner Raymond Wiggins worked at the Brewton drop-off site along with Commission Secretary Sharon Sherrer and a number of other volunteers. Wiggins said the site was filled abundantly with electronics to be recycled.
Wiggins said volunteers were very beneficial and helped each drop-off location run smoothly.
The response was just as good in the Flomaton area according to a report by
Commissioner Larry White.
White also praised his fellow commissioners for taking part in this recycling effort.
White said. “We appreciate the help of RSVP, EMA and our volunteer fire department volunteers. They played a tremendous part in the success of this project.”
In Atmore, the turnout was just as positive and Commissioner Brandon Smith was successful due to community support.
Commissioner Wiley Tait agreed.
Smith said the program will certainly benefit every citizen of the county because of the impact this event will have on the environment.
