Back in the swing of things

After a brief hiatus, I am back, although I never really went anywhere, but looking at last Wednesday’s paper you might have thought I had. Due to Horizons coming out, things were a little different for us last week, so the usual Lifestyles section did not appear.
I have heard some good things about our paper last week, not just the Horizons section, but the overall paper.
I’m sure many of you were intrigued to read the “Our View.” It was a true group effort in writing, and we appreciate the positive feedback we have received.
As for the Horizons section, that too has brought some good reviews, and I have to say that even though it completely took over my life for a good month or so, it was worth the experiences I had.
As I’ve said before, meeting new people is one of the main reasons I went into this field, as is improving my photography skills. Horizons allowed me the perfect opportunity to do both.
The ladies who quilt were one of my favorite groups to meet and make me want to pick up the craft just to spend some more time with them. The guys down at B &J Quick Stop were another of my favorite groups even though they were a little hesitant to have their picture made. When I came back for a second time to ask them to reconsider their decision to not have their picture made they told me I was just like a stubborn woman and gave in. I am very grateful for that.
In my last column I wrote about barbecue and asked for suggestions for good places to go. I’ve received a few, but have not had the chance to try them out yet, but will shortly. I did get to try B&T Texas style barbecue, and I have to say I’m a fan of their practice of using dry rub on the ribs with sauce on the side.
I did have to wait until Saturday for the ribs although the craving hit me Friday. Now that Lent is in full swing, no meat for me on Fridays.
Besides the church wide abstention, I’ve decided to give up wasting time on the Internet and have banned myself from a particular celebrity gossip Web site. I always like to add something for Lent as well and this year I’ve allotted myself a certain amount of time each day to read my Bible.
On a final note, my apologies to Louree Bailey who I mistakenly identified as Jean Clark in the dancing section of Horizons.
