In conjunction with Huxford Elementary School’s 21st Century Community Learning Center, Missoula Children’s Theatre’s will be putting on their original adaptation of “The Little Mermaid” Friday night.
The Missoula Children’s Theatre is based out of Montana and brings everything necessary to put on a full-scale musical, including costumes, scenery, props and makeup, just without the actors. Auditions are held on Monday, where upwards of 40 children are cast and practices begin the same night. The children end the week with a full performance.
The production is made possible through the school’s 21st Century Community Learning Center grant, which also funds the community learning center.
Escambia County School System Grant Writer Gloria Fowler said when applying for the grant, it was specifically mentioned that the Missoula Children’s Theatre would be part of the activities.
HES Counselor Carol Middleton said the children as well as the faculty and parents are very excited about the musical.
Auditions for the musical were held Monday and the final performance will be at 6 p.m. on Friday. Admission to the performance is $2 for adults, $1 for students and children 5 and under get in free.
